Consultant Cardiologist / Interventional Cardiologist & Physician
Dr David Barrett obtained a Bachelor of Science (First class Honors), and MBBS (with Honors) at the University of Sydney. He continued with medical and then advanced Cardiology training at the Prince of Wales teaching hospital in Sydney NSW followed by an Interventional Cardiology Fellowship at St George Hospital, Sydney, after which he obtained his specialist qualifications as a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of Physicians (FRACP).
During his basic and advanced cardiology training, he spent considerable time on rotation in Port Macquarie, becoming well acquainted with the Port Macquarie and Kempsey districts. He decided he would like to return to the area to live and work with his wife, a Paediatric surgeon and young family.
Dr Barrett has maintained his appointment with the Prince of Wales / Eastern Heart Clinic where he continues to perform the more complicated procedures of angiogram and stent insertions.
He looks forward to contributing his expertise to the local area and association with the Rural Medical School to conduct regular lectures and tutorials to local students in clinical cardiology and ECG interpretation. Dr Barrett anticipates assisting as an examiner with the College of Physicians Clinical Exams.
